Cheese Burger
Ingredients
Martin’s seeded hamburger buns
Butter, for toasting the buns, if desired
4-ounce ground beef patties, I like an 80/20 blend (You’ll need two patties for every burger or 8 ounces of beef)
Kosher salt
Ground black pepper
American cheese
Shredded iceberg lettuce
Tomato, sliced in ¼ inch thick rounds
Red onion, sliced in ¼ inch thick rings
For the special sauce:
(Makes enough for 4-5 burgers)
¼ cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons ketchup
2 tablespoons yellow mustard
2 tablespoons bread & butter pickles diced small (or you can substitute your favorite relish)
Directions
Make the special sauce: stir together the mayonnaise, ketchup, yellow mustard and pickles. Set aside.
If desired, toast your buns with a little bit of butter until warm and golden brown. Season the burger patties with salt and pepper. Cook until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes. Flip the burger and cook for another minute. Add your cheese on top of the patties. I like to use two slices of cheese for my bottom patty.
Spread special sauce on both sides of your bun. Top the bottom bun with shredded lettuce, then add your tomatoes and onion. First top the bun with your double-cheese patty then the remaining patty. Close the bun.
