Donna’s Caribbean restaurant is in a shopping plaza, so parking was not a problem. The restaurant was clean and small. When I walked through the door, I went up to order my food. A worker was helping someone so another woman walked up and said hi, I greeted her as well. Another customer walked in after that and noticed that they did not have any more ackee and saltfish, which is what I was going to get also. It looked like they only make a small pot of it but apparently it is a popular dish because another customer also complained that they never make enough. The worker who was assisting us was very nonchalant about it. The only thing that was left over was kidney, liver and brown stew chicken callaloo. Nothing looked appetizing, it all seemed very dry. I was going to go the next day but they are not open on Sundays.

We arrived in a strip mall at 7:30 pm. We walked into the restaurant and was quickly greeted by the staff. They asked us what we wanted to order. They have a basic cafeteria style set up. All entrees come with slaad, rice and beans, plantains and protein. My wife ordered the small fried chicken, while I ordered the small oxtail. Everything was good and what you’d expect from a Jamaican cafeteria style restaurant. The ambiance was unassuming. The service price and quality of the food was good. The portions were huge. Cafeteria style implies that most of the food is premade fyi. They had other Jamaican delicacies which was a nice touch. I had champagne cola for the first time which I liked because I enjoy trying new things. Standard Jamaican fare. I would not be running back because it is an hour from my home. The dessert was a fruit cake which was good. The staff was welcoming and friendly.

I was unsure of menu items and had a lovely conversation with one of the patrons who was helpful. The staff was not especially informative and gave me salad without asking and I had to pay extra for a side of steamed veggies. I did not feel very welcomed or assisted. I had the jerk chicken and rice for an entrée. The location was very difficult to find and the staff had a difficult time helping me on the phone. I would not travel to visit this restaurant. I drove one hour each way, and the food was not especially to my liking. I considered it to be an adventure and for that it was worth it.
