We arrived to find ample parking and ventured inside. After walking in and letting our eyes adjust to the darkness, a hostess seated us at a nearby booth. We looked over our menus while waiting for friends to arrive. Meanwhile, our
server had brought us the drinks we ordered. It was Happy Hour, so our drinks and appetizer were half-price. After our party arrived, we ordered Coconut Crusted Shrimp and Yuengling Beer Battered Scallops for the table. We ordered our entrees with some customized requests, which arrived just after we finished our appetizers. Our server also brought us a pitcher of ice water and any condiments we might possibly need. She checked up on us without hovering.
My Tuna Steak was cooked to perfection, medium rare, smothered in grilled onions and peppers, with a side of wasabi mayo to give it the perfect kick. I made sure to save room for dessert, which was a warm Brownie blast, with ice cream and fresh whipped cream served on the side at my request. Our table devoured the gooey goodness, the perfect finish to our meal. The atmosphere was so comfortable; we were there for a couple of hours, enjoying great food and conversation. When the bill arrived, we were pleasantly surprised that our meal for four was what a typical meal for two would have cost.

I was really underwhelmed when I approached the restaurant - deserted shopping center with Geronimo’s in one corner. Restaurant was quiet when I arrived but picked up later – a very local and congenial crowd. Nice service. They changed the TV (to the U.S. Open), no problem. House wine was cheap ($2.50/glass) and definitely drinkable. I could see that the staff was service-oriented and attentive.
The main draw was the food. A good menu with the staples - burgers, chicken tenders, etc. I ordered blackened salmon and fries. Fish was really fresh and well cooked and presented. I didn’t like the look of lettuce and tomatoes, so I asked for cole slaw – which was delicious. I felt good about the whole experience when I left.

I was a little hesitant when we parked the car and looked at the restaurant’s grim façade…but I quickly discovered that you can’t judge a restaurant by its storefront! Upon entering Geronimo’s, I was surprised at how large the restaurant was. We were immediately greeted and seated. The ambiance is your typical college hangout/sports bar with a chain restaurant vibe. Our waitress was very attentive, and the food service was good. The dining experience got off to a shaky start with a very strange Spinach Dip. It was a “Velveeta” type cheese mixed with spinach and tomatoes and served with a combination of pita wedges and stale chips, along with a side of salsa and sour cream. It reminded me of something you would throw together at home at 2am after a night of heavy drinking. My dinner companion had the Pasta Fagioli which was hearty and homemade. I selected the Coconut Shrimp, and I was very happy with my selection. Six huge butterfly shrimp were encrusted with a nice layer of coconut…this dish was unexpected and outstanding. The sweet dipping sauce was a great accompaniment. I particularly enjoyed the red bliss potatoes. They were cooked and seasoned to perfection. The Caesar salad which came with the entrée was very good…the croutons were freshly made and scrumptious. My companion had the Chicken Parmesan which was a delish chicken breast stuffed with mozzarella, ricotta and parmesan cheese and topped with a marinara sauce. This dish was some serious comfort food. For dessert, the key lime pie was just average. I did enjoy the generous portion of fresh whipped cream that dressed up the pie.
Overall, the dining experience at Geronimo’s Bar & Grill was a good one. If you’re looking for a sports bar to get your game and your comfort food on… Geronimo’s is the place.
