The ultimate special occasion restaurant in the middle Keys! Tucked inside a tired looking roadside hotel, Hideaway Café is a gem of a restaurant. As you make your way up the green carpeted stairs to its second-story location, you wonder to yourself what is becoming of your evening. Am I really going to eat here? As you gaze out the jalousie windows towards one of the best views of the Atlantic of any restaurant in the area you realize that this place is special… Try to dine here before sundown to really capitalize on that scenery. Menu items are the likes of those that our parents and grandparents enjoyed many a moon ago. Fish is always fresh and local and the duck is not to be missed. Service is polite and attentive as waiters waft around dressed in white shirts and black bowties. The décor can be described as 1970s Keys chic but that is not to say that they place is worn down, it just has patina. Once the food comes you will notice that you will not be leaving hungry. Most entrees come with the standard side of a salad and a side plate of perfectly piped out mashed potatoes and steamed veggies. As the meal comes to a close make sure to order a dessert, or a glass of bubbly, because you will want to savor the experience for a few extra minutes. This place reminds you that when strip away the pomp and circumstance of modern dining, you create a true destination restaurant where diners can take a few hours to enjoy good food, better company, and the most amazing ambiance.

We pulled up to the parking lot and started looking for Hideaway Cafe. This place really lives up to the name. Unless someone recommends it you will never know Hideaway existed. We entered and the host asked if we had called to reserve, I answered no and he didn't hesitate to find us seating. For 2 he recommended the bottle of wine compared to the glass and we agreed. To start we ordered the Jumbo Shrimp cocktail which was very good. There are 2 types of menus the sunset and the dinner menu. We ordered from the sunset menu. I had the half of duck and my date had the lamb chops both meals came with a Caesar salad, mash potato, and veggies. The restaurant served bread and butter we thought was good also, the service through our experience was excellent. The seating arrangement was a little uncomfortable do to how low the chairs were. We sat in a place that looked like an enclosed outside upstairs patio with bay view. We watched the sunset while having a wonderful dinner. For dessert we ordered a crème Brule and it was fantastic, decorated with caramel and white chocolate hearts, my date loved it. The portions served were enough to get our bellies full and happy. Like the saying goes (I can't complain).
