From the moment we approached, we are struck by how small the place looks and how the Pelican theme almost makes it feel like a place near the beach. Not sure what to expect, then you enter and are greeted by Sue who makes you feel immediately at home, like you’ve entered her home. “Welcome back! Where have you been?” I love that! And then we take a close look at the handwritten specials on the board behind the counter. There are more than a dozen for today.
We decide to start with a cup of coffee and a Pomegranate Mimosa- Great Choice! I decide to do a combo which is Chicken Shank, slow cooked in curry (for 7 hours) and served in a bowl with that heavenly sauce. It also brings two eggs over light, home fried potatoes and grilled Naan bread. Combining the sauce and the potatoes and the chicken while dipping the warm naan is amazing with all of the intense flavors that fill your whole mouth (and soul). My wife had the Huevos Rancheros, which featured a delicious salsa along with home fries and naan, also so full of flavor that we kept reaching across the table to share bites of each other’s food.
As a dessert, we opted for the peach cobbler pancake that was so warm and sugary and peachy that it didn’t even need any syrup. It was so good that it could have been breakfast by itself. It normally came as an entrée, but Sue made us just one, as a dessert item. We had such a great meal and we were full all day from the great flavors and amazing hospitality that this neighborhood spot where Sueand Tari know everyone and make you feel right at home. It is cash only, but they have an ATM in the back of the dining room- Smart! They always have a plethora of specials and even have Greek features, Mexican features, wine and beer. Only drawback is that they close at 2pm. Gotta get there for lunch, you won’t regret it!!!

I went back for a second time to The Pelican as the menu was so intriguing and there were so many options, Indian and breakfast with South Jersey dinner flair. The owner is so friendly and did not charge me for a dish of the curried spinach/potato, but said I needed rice to cool off the spicy intensity. Appreciated being recognized.

It is located in the heart of Lake Worth. I went early so I was able to get street parking in the front. I was welcomed with a smile and sat down immediately. The server was prompt and my breakfast came out quickly and hot. The regulars all chatted with one another and included me. I felt welcome despite being by myself.
